Nicaragua Mission

Christ Lutheran Church is active in a mission in Nicaragua. Through the generosity of the congregation and the help of her members, Christ Lutheran Church has built a Lutheran Church in the city of Matagalpa and  a second church in the city of Jinotega.

Imagine your church without electricity or running water!  Imagine having to schedule everything before the sun goes down, not being able to have church dinners or Bible studies or meetings in the evenings unless you bring a bunch of candles or a lantern. Imagine having to haul every drop of water into the church for Sunday after worship church dinners, for both cooking and washing dishes. Imagine having to go all the way home when one of the children (or you yourself) need to use a washroom.

That’s what our Lutheran friends in Jinotega, Nicaragua had been dealing with for many months now since their church was built, but not quite completed. We  put an end to this situation in March. A team from Niagara area left on March 14th for the mountains of Nicaragua and returned March 22nd. We  collected enough money to complete the projects mentioned in the Jinotega church as well as add to the funding of feeding projects there and in Matagalpa. If you would like to help, please direct your cheque to Christ Lutheran Church, 140 Russell Ave. St. Catharines, L2R 1W1. mark it for the Nicaragua Mission. Of course, the great need is to Haiti right now and we are personally directing our greater gifts there; but we also want to see other work like this continue on as well. Perhaps you do, too.

The other purpose of this trip revolved around more comprehensive planning for future trips, including a youth trip during March Break 2011. We would like to go even beyond that with our brothers and sisters in Nicaragua, planning together perhaps 3-5 years in advance, based on their perception of what is needed and our perception of what we in North America might be able to contribute. If you have questions, please contact Rev. Kuenzel or Frank Parkhouse (Chairman of the Nicaragua Coordinating Committee). Both can be reached through the church office (905-685-8294 or christlutheran.stcatharines@gmail.com).

Along with church-building activities our mission team also spread the good news of Jesus Christ through evangelism in puppet shows for kids and distribution of Christian literature and fun items like power bracelets. We recently had a member of the congregation live and serve in Nicaragua for almost an entire year. If you are interested in getting involved in the Nicaragua mission please contact us and we will direct you to the Nicaragua mission committee for further information.

Keep us in your prayers!

News From Nicaragua

Hola!  This is Karolay Morales, the oldest daughter of Pastor Hector Morales in Nicaragua,

pictured here holding her little brother.  Our church has been sponsoring their church in many endeavours over the last 5 years, helping to build a place to worship, sponsoring feeding programs through LCC  and sending mission teams.  This wonderful, Christ honouring family is also the sponsoring family that hosted our own Krysti Martin when we sent her as a missionary in 2006.  Now, Karolay is 17 and has completed highschool.  She has the opportunity to go to University in Cuba to study medicine, but was unable to enrol for this upcoming year.  We as a congregation would like to bring Karolay here for the year to study English and help us plan for our 2011 mission.  Karolay is a bright, passionate young lady who is eager to learn about our culture, and see the church family that has supported her and prayed for her.  We have been making efforts to bring her here to work with our congregation for the Nicaraguan projects we have been supporting.

We can’t wait for you to meet her!
